Naoyuki and I have managed to get ourselves a short contract Flashing for SoLuck, who is between us and Toyota... although there could be others in between... We first heard when Emily was here, about 3 weeks ago. We gave them a quote and were asked to raise it. Yeah. Twice... so it tripled, pretty much. We are making some blog parts for their site, so that any old person can drop in some javascript and load up their little widgets. Nothing too crazy just yet, I've just finished building a word cloud in Flash, which was interesting... Actually, the whole project looks like it might be fairly decent for stretching the programming parts of my head.
The client wants the code stripped out an in a seperate AS file... I've bitched about people mashing up code in all different parts of their Flash files, and I realise that I'm pretty guilty of same... oh well!
We need to read in most of the contents too... all the pictures and the data are out of the system. The API hasn't been completed yet, so it's bit of a stretch trying to second guess what's happening.... sweetness... my head go hurty....

Today, I emailed a couple of agencies, Oglivy, Grey, and JWT. Akiko spoke to her friend at JWT also, and she met with someone from RanaDesign, and their site says they need Flash Creators... フラシュクリエーター...
Where can I find some Takada Wataru? I want some....

My good sister Emily has left, we trundled around Tokyo and Japan for two weeks, and it was very enjoyable.
But now she's gone, and the sadness she left behind is starting to lift. The coffee she left behind is firing up the brain, and I have gone back to coding mode. I have been mucking around with JUCE, a wicked C++ Library for cross platform Audio app development. In the forums, there was talk of some tutorials by Haydxn, but they were down... I found them though in the waybackmachine. A little dated, but I'm getting through. This library is well wicked!
I've got sliders talking to buttons and labels... nothing special, but I'm happy enough given it's essentially week one of c++

Some background....My sister arrived in Tokyo two days ago, and I'd conveyed this to the company I was working for, before I took a contract from them. We wanted for there to be no cross over, fair enough. But there was, from last minute corrections. Which are still spilling out. and there's no hourly fee. Because I'm stupid
Today was tops, I had a fun time with my sister Emily, brother in law Reuben and his cousin Kylie. Yesterday, much the same, bar a few hours of work that was poorly timed and fairly inconsequential.
Over the course of the day, I extracted a little info from Reuben and Kylie about what I should be doing regarding pay, specifically, more pay.
From Reuben, Flash programmer elite, I gathered the current mode of quoting and working for a project was ineffective, client's not being aware of time involved, particularly when changes/corrections are made midway. I'll admit, I fuck up. We all do. In a digital medium, these can be fixed. Undo. Copy. Paste. I don't feel that the client should be burdened for my...faults. absent mindedness. Shoddy code. But, nor should I have to worry about a client's inability to judge what is required both initially and continually regarding time requirements. Or varying designs and requirements midway. Or waiting for important materials with the deadline looming. I loose my time, and my hair gets grey, and my wallet gets anorexic.
So, from Reuben, the advice was to pick an hourly rate, and pitch it to companies that know what is happening. While in Melbourne, I would buy olives and cheese from the local ethnic man who knew about these things, not the supermarket deli girl who might've been chroming in the car park for all I know. I want to work with competent client's who have a rough idea what is involved, yet, I keep taking contracts from under skilled smaller companies that seem to be dabbling in the field. It's good to help out, sure, but it's not charity work, get paid properly.

I installed the Photo Gallery plugin and I can't work it... or find it... I want to pull it apart and stick it back together, but to no avail... it looks like it doesn't fire up under mt4.... and there's not much documentation.... and it seems that mt4 was released not too long ago, so there's still some wait time for the docs, maybe? I dunno....

Just installed MT, hoping it will not be too difficult. I have some friends at dears-m-i.com who want a page, and I thought MT would be the way to go. I also managed to get MT working at home on XP. XAMPP + XAMPP's PERL!, then address the path in the cgi files... what? whatever...
I want to try and build an MP3 player for them in Flash to plug into MT, I'll probably give up sooner or later and just hack something so it pulls stuff out of the database, but if it goes ahead... well... hooray! I'll throw it up
